Viv McLean to perform Grieg Piano Concerto

Shrewsbury Symphony Orchestra are delighted that Viv McLean will be performing the Grieg Piano Concerto with us on Wednesday 21st November 2012.

Viv McLean

Viv McLean won First Prize at the 2002 Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona and has performed in the UK, France, Spain, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Israel, Cyprus, Malta, Australia, Japan and USA.

He has performed concertos with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, National Musicians Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Viva and the Scottish Concert Orchestra.

Viv McLeanViv has appeared at festivals including the International Beethoven Festival in Bonn, the Festival des Saintes in France and the Cheltenham International Festival and has recorded for Sony Classical Japan, Naxos and the RPO label. Viv has recorded regularly for BBC Radio 3 as well as for radio in Germany, France, Australia, Norway and Poland.

“ Viv McLean revealed extraordinary originality, superb simplicity, and muscles of steel hidden by fingers of velvet. He plays with the genius one finds in those who know how to forget themselves, naturally placing themselves at the right point to meet the music, this mystery of the moment.” Le Monde (Paris)

Sad to hear about Alec Edwards and Geraint Jones

The Orchestra were very sad to hear about the passing of Alec Edwards (ex principal trumpet) and Geraint Jones (ex principal clarinet).

Between them they devoted over eighty years of membership to the orchestra and were much respected through-out the county as players.

Our thoughts are with their families.

Shrewsbury Symphony Orchestra Website gets a revamp

Shrewsbury Symphony Orchestra

Following the success of our May 2012 film music concert in Theatre Severn, we engaged local photographer David Williams to take some photos of us whilst in full concert dress.

As you can see the photos look great so we took the opportunity to redesign our website using this photo as the main image.

We hope that you like the updated look and feel to our website.
