Weather-permitting, the orchestra will play a mix of popular classics, film music and 'Last Night of the Proms' favourites at the concert in the grounds of Shrewsbury Castle on the evening of Wednesday, July 17th.

Tickets are just £5 for adults or £1 for children, full time students and carers - with an opportunity to make a donation to charity on the night. In the case of bad weather (rain), the concert will need to be cancelled and all ticket monies will be refunded.

The concert is in aid of the Harry Johnson Trust this year. The trust was set up in 2014 following the death of seven-year-old Harry and continues to offer tremendous support and help to children and teenagers who receive care form the Oncology Team at The Princess Royal Hospital in Shropshire. They do no end of lovely things for children and families, from providing 'everyday essentials' and special gifts to children going into hospital, to giving families access to 'Harry's House' a static caravan in mid Wales and enabling families to enjoy special time together.

Shrewsbury Symphony Orchestra Chairman Jon Box said: "The castle concert is now a popular fixture in the orchestra's annual programme - all of the players love it and we are pleased to be able to invite a broad audience, including families and young children, to enjoy some popular classics and film music in the absolutely glorious setting of Shrewsbury Castle.

"Make a noise, chat amongst yourselves, enjoy a picnic, dance about, sing along - this is all about enjoying great music, having fun and raising money for a great local charity. We would just like to remind people that should the British weather let us down, unfortunately, we have no option but to cancel, since string players cannot play in the rain! But we've been lucky for three years in a row, so fingers crossed that the sun will shine on us once again!"

Sally Johnson of The Harry Johnson Trust said: "The trustees are delighted that The Harry Johnson has been chosen by the orchestra for the annual concert at Shrewsbury Castle. This is a prestigious event in Shrewsbury's calendar and it will help to raise the profile and raise funds to support the crucial support given to local families when coping with childhood cancer."
